The Fantastic Gymnastics National Championship 2013 in Ahoy Rotterdam, a Colorful Spectacle

In the shadow of the impressive Ahoy Arena, the Dutch Championships of almost all gymnastics sports in 2013 had a magical touch thanks to the Rotterdam Balloon Company. The weekend in Ahoy marked the 'Fantastic Gymnastics NK 2013', where the athletes excelled and the complex temporarily became the largest gymnasium in Europe.

The Rotterdam Ahoy complex turned into a vibrant center for gymnastics fanatics and athletes from all kinds of disciplines. It was the scene of the Dutch Championships in gymnastics for women and men, trampolining, rhythmic gymnastics, acrogym, jazz dance, street dance, and even the National Championships in rhönrad gymnastics. This was a grand event that brought together the best in the country to compete for top honors.

A special highlight of the weekend was the presence of none other than Epke Zonderland. The Dutch gymnastics champion, who is admired worldwide for his skills on the horizontal bar, made his appearance in the sports palace. As he prepared for the big World Gymnastics Championships that would take place in Antwerp later that year, he thrilled the spectators with his impressive exercises.

A striking addition to the 'Fantastic Gymnastics NK 2013' was the introduction of free running. This demonstration sport brought together hundreds of top athletes from home and abroad to enchant the audience with spectacular urban moves. Freerunners ran and climbed over walls, roofs and railings with unprecedented agility, inspiring others to push their limits.

Freerunning has since grown in popularity, with more and more gym clubs offering the sport. In addition, teachers can now follow special training as instructors through the Royal Dutch Gymnastics Union to teach others the art of freerunning.
