Rotterdam does not have a true Red Light District with prostitutes behind red-lit windows. Anyone looking for sex, excitement and temptation will therefore need to take the train towards 020. From Rotterdam Central Station, you can reach Amsterdam Central in about 40 minutes. The Red Light District is within walking distance; in 5 to 10 minutes you walk straight into the historic city centre and find yourself right in the middle of the Amsterdam Wallen. You can’t miss it.
The Wallen are located in the heart of the old city centre and leave little to the imagination. In streets such as Zeedijk, Oudezijds Achterburgwal, Oudezijds Voorburgwal and Warmoesstraat, red-lit windows, bars and clubs follow one another in quick succession. During the day it may seem like an ordinary neighbourhood, but in the evening the area changes completely. Neon lights come on, the crowds grow and sex and eroticism are openly visible. Until deep into the night, everything here revolves around excitement, temptation and nightlife, with people constantly filling the streets.
Anyone who wants to stay right in the middle of the action or be able to sleep straight away after a long night is best off choosing a hotel in or near the Red Light District.
