Everything connects seamlessly, making transfers easy. The metro is the backbone of the system, while trams serve the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Paying & checking in

In Rotterdam you check in and out with your bank card, credit card, phone or OV-chipkaart. For tourists, day passes are often the easiest option. You can buy them in the RET app, the 9292 app, at ticket machines or at service points. For metro, tram and bus you always check in and out; for trains you only check in and out at NS gates.

The metro is the fastest way to travel through Rotterdam. With five lines you can reach key destinations such as Rotterdam Central, Blaak, Zuidplein, Kralingse Zoom and even The Hague. Metros run frequently and are highly reliable.
The bus

Buses connect neighbourhoods without metro or tram lines, such as Hoogvliet, Beverwaard, Charlois and Pernis. They link well with metro and train services and also run at night and on weekends.

The Waterbus

Taxi

Taxi services operate 24/7 and are useful when public transport is not running. Look for the TX quality mark for official taxis. Starting and kilometre rates are nationally regulated.
