King's Day in Rotterdam
Every year on King's Day we celebrate the biggest party of the year in the Netherlands, on April 27, on the occasion of the birthday of our King Willem Alexander. The party starts the night before as people dress in orange and take to the streets. Even the royal family comes out to celebrate with all the Dutch! Ok, the main party takes place in 020, but Rotterdam is organizing the second largest party in the country.
ROTTERDAM. MAKE IT ORANGE.
On April 27, 2023, King Willem Alexander will celebrate his 10th anniversary with a big party in 010 and we are very proud of that! We will make that day an unforgettable party for the Royal family with many balloons in the city and everyone is welcome. All developments surrounding King's Day 2023 in Rotterdam can be followed on koningsdaginrotterdam.nl
King's Night (Night of Orange)
The party starts the night before and is known as Koningsnacht (the Night of Orange). Nacht van Oranje is an evening of Dutch music, with parties and live shows throughout the city. If you like Dutch house music, TIKTAK is definitely for you. It is the largest event in Rotterdam and is held in the Maassilo, a super cool place in a former grain silo. If this isn't your thing, just go to the Witte De Withstraat. There you will find numerous bars and clubs that are buzzing with fun. Pay attention to yourself, you should also be able to enjoy the next day :-)
King's Day
The celebration of King's Day in Rotterdam will start early in the morning on April 27 at 6 am and the party will continue all day and night. Almost everyone is dressed in orange and if you plan to party the night before, it is recommended to wear orange clothes for 2 days. King's Day does not only consist of drinking and partying, you can also participate in (free) markets, the fair and other festivities to celebrate King's Day in Rotterdam.
Flea Markets (Free Markets)
One of the most popular and characteristic events on King's Day in Rotterdam are the flea markets. Rotterdammers come out to sell their 2nd hand stuff, such as clothes and trinkets, but they also stand there with food and drinks. The most popular free markets can be found in the Liskwartier, the Coolsingel and the Binnenrotte, and of course you can negotiate the prices there! After all, that's part of the fun at the flea market. So make sure you have some cash and a tote bag with you in case you run into anything.
Fun fair
When you come to celebrate King's Day with your children, there is also plenty to do for the whole family. You can get your face painted, games and rides and a host of family-friendly ways to spend your day. Be sure to visit the large funfair on the Deliplein on the Schiehaven.
Music events
Rotterdam organizes the Oranjebitter Festival in Het Roel Langerakpark, with a huge musical line-up of Dutch DJs. For Carnival lovers, there is also the Code Orange Festival in the city center. NB! You have to buy tickets!
The Kralinge Bos Festival has 6 stages and pumps music through the nearby Kralingse Bos en Kralingse Plas all night long! And finally - if you like house, techno and harstyle - you can also visit the Kingsland Festival in the Zuiderpark.
As you can see, Rotterdammers take their King's Day very seriously!
